How I got started with beekeeping suits.
Well I can guarantee it was something I fell into and not a lifelong dream that I had. It all started during Covid. ( of course ) My business was struggling with all the shutdowns so I was offered a job at a beekeeping shop in Albury NSW just in customer service. Well I fell in love. I have been a beekeeper for maybe eight years, I had dabbled in commercial with a friend, had a go a queen breeding but at the end of the day I do not have the back to be a real beekeeper. So being immersed in beekeeping and no having to lift full supers of honey was like a dream come true.
Unfortunately it was not meant to be and the business had to close down. I was ok and I just went back to my other business, the lockdowns had settled down and I was able to slowly build it back up.
In the meantime I got a lot of calls and messages from customers and suppliers to find out what was going on. One message was from the Beekeeping suit manufacturer. I hadn't realised that one of the owners had put in an order for 4 SHIPPING CONTAINERS of beekeeping suits..... Wow that's enough to to make the eyes boggel..... There are a small family run business and it was going to be a huge financial blow for them. It was then I had a chat with some friends and we decided to buy what he had already made and sell them online... Because at the end of the day they are a great beekeeping suit they just needed new branding. It was then Bee Suits Australia was born.
Three pallet loads turned up and was slowly unpacked and counted. Now I'm getting the word out and everyone has been happy with their suits so far.
Moving forward I am already planning my next order and seeking wholesale customers. They are a great product and my kids are great models lol.
In all seriousness this business did fall in my lap but I'm loving it and can't wait to see what is around the corner... I already have another little idea to help artisanal honey producers and a Podcast is in development all about beekeeping.
So watch this space.
